Scarsdale, NY - The Hoff-Barthelson Music School has openings in its adult Festival Chorus and Chamber Music programs.
This is a wonderful opportunity for avocational singers and instrumentalists to rehearse and perform with fellow music enthusiasts from the community. Additionally, performers who are preparing for a recital or wish to test a musical program are invited to play on one of the monthly Performers Showcase recitals.
The Festival Chorus, an ensemble of 35-50 members, rehearses on Wednesday nights at 8:15 pm. Performances throughout the year include the Holiday Music Festival, the Music of our Time Festival and Classics in Concert Festival. The Chorus performs great works from the classical choral repertoire; jazz and short choral pieces from the contemporary literature; and pop standards by such composers as Gershwin and Kern. Past performances have included Bernstein’s Chichister Psalms, the Mozart Requiem; excerpts from the Mass in B minor, Orff’s Carmina Burana; and works by composers from Handel to Gershwin. Prospective singers are invited to attend a Wednesday evening rehearsal in October. Jun Nakabayashi, The Festival Chorus Director, will listen to singers for voice placement.
The Music School’s Adult Chamber Music Program is designed for avocational adult players who wish to hone their skills and experience performing as part of a chamber ensemble. Intermediate and experienced players will be placed in combinations with players of a similar level of experience, in combinations ranging from duos to quintets. Sessions are 10 weeks long in each semester, with an informal concert at the end of the term. The program, which is coordinated by faculty member Rie Matsumoto, meets on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. Many adult players also refresh their technical skills with lessons at the Music School.
Another program for adults Performers Showcase, an informal recital program at which professional and avocational musicians wishing to prepare for a recital, hone their performance skills, or simply play or sing in an informal setting may perform in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere before an audience of fellow musicians. Soloists and chamber ensembles are welcome to perform, and musicians are encouraged to invite guests to the workshops.
Performers Showcase, is scheduled on six Tuesday mornings throughout the fall, winter and spring. Participation in Performers Showcase can be arranged by calling Coordinator Edmund Niemann.
The Hoff-Barthelson Music School, one of Westchester County’s most cherished and active cultural resources, has achieved national recognition as a premier community music school for its unsurpassed leadership in education, performance and outreach for more than half a century.
