Youth Violence Initiative To Launch In Yonkers |

White Plains, NY - M.A.V.E.R.I.C.K. – Mothers Against Violence: Encouraging Responsibility in Community Kids kicks off the first parent workshop at Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers.
The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and the City of Yonkers Violence and Gang Prevention Coalition, with the support of the Yonkers School District, are co-sponsoring a M.A.V.E.R.I.C.K. event in Yonkers, the first in a series that will focus on parents’ concerns surrounding gangs and youth violence.
The M.A.V.E.R.I.C.K. initiative is designed to educate and empower parents surrounding the issue of youth violence. A panel of educators, community organizers and law enforcement professionals will share effective strategies used to reroute problem behavior in school aged children. These practical tools and resources include mentorship programs, youth counseling, truancy reduction studies and family therapy.
The first M.A.V.E.R.I.C.K. event will be held on Monday, May 12, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in honor of Mother’s Day at the Nepperhan Community Center at 342 Warburton Ave. in Yonkers. Subsequent events will be held at various locations throughout the county.

Yonkers include: Janet DiFiore, Westchester County District Attorney; Jim Bostic, Executive Director, Nepperhan Community Center; Lianne Archer, 2nd Vice President, New York State Gang Investigation Association and Stuart Barksdale and Vincent Tilson, Yonkers Guardians.
