White Plains, NY - The Westchester County District Attorney's Office has announced that Joanne Baker, 51, of Scarsdale, New York was arraigned on one count of Insurance Fraud, one count of Grand Larceny, and one count of Insurance Fraud.
During an extensive investigation involving the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the Metropolitan Life Insurance Home and Auto Fraud Unit, and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, it was discovered that between September 2006 and February 2009 the defendant fraudulently billed MetLife for over $15,600.00 in dental services which were not actually rendered to MetLife insured patients.
To support the fraudulent billings, the defendant fabricated patient medical records and submitted copies of these false records to MetLife from her dentist’s office located at 1 Bryant Crescent, White Plains, New York.
The defendant made numerous efforts to prevent concerned patients from reporting her actions by falsifying insurance paperwork. She also attempted to mislead MetLife representatives as they investigated her fraudulent billing practices.
Bail was set at $10,000.00.
Baker’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 24, 2009.
She faces a maximum of seven years in state prison on the top count.
Assistant District Attorney Brian Fitzgerald, of the Economic Crimes Bureau, will prosecute the case.
