White Plains, NY - Westchester County is looking for candidates interested in taking the Civil Service Examination for Correction Officer. The examination is being held on October 27, but interested candidates must file to take the exam by August 27.
"Being a correction officer is a difficult, but rewarding job," said Westchester County Commissioner of Correction Rocco Pozzi. “It pays well and can open doors to other careers in law enforcement."
Capt. Wanda Smithson, recruitment supervisor, said that being a correction officer involves much more than guarding prisoners. "You can direct your own career and there are many opportunities," she said. "It’s also very rewarding because you can show people that there are other choices in life. And it pays well too."
Starting salary for correction officers is $46,562. To take the civil service exam, candidates must be at least 21, have a high school diploma and be U.S. citizens. In addition to passing the civil service examination, there are other exam and entry-level requirements.
Westchester County is an equal opportunity employer and its Department of Human Resources works to recruit qualified candidates for county positions. The department creates and prints recruitment materials, announces and holds civil service exams and receives and reviews thousands of applications each year.
Applicants can obtain the job announcement and application on the Department of Human Resources website at www.westchestergov.com/hr. They may also contact (914) 231-1370 f or more information.
