Bronxville, NY - On Thursday evening, May 8, 2008, Westchester County District Attorney and Bronxville resident Janet DiFiore will receive The Maxwell Institute’s Humanitarian Award for her steadfast commitment to the pursuit of justice and her dedication to public service.
The award ceremony will take place at Maxwell’s biennial fundraising gala, which includes dinner and The New York Philharmonic’s limited-engagement production of Camelot at Lincoln Center.
Margaret Torrell, chair of this year’s gala, noted that The Maxwell Institute selected Ms. DiFiore because of her exemplary service to Westchester County — as former Judge, prosecutor, assistant district attorney and, for the last two years, District Attorney — and, specifically, for her tireless advocacy against drug abuse. Kathryn and Peter Hicks, longtime supporters of The Maxwell Institute, will serve as honorary chairs for the evening. Nearly one-hundred local residents are serving on the Benefit Committee.
Founded in 1980 and located in Tuckahoe, New York, The Maxwell Institute of St. Vincent’s Hospital Westchester offers access to extensive inpatient and outpatient mental health and chemical dependency services. In addition, Maxwell provides drug and alcohol abuse prevention and education programs for the youth and families in Westchester County. It is for these programs specifically that all proceeds from this fund raising gala will be devoted.
The theatrical highlight of the evening will be Camelot, with Broadway Musical Director Paul Gemignani leading the New York Philharmonic, and featuring Gabriel Byrne as King Arthur, Marin Mazzie as Guenevere, and Nathan Gunn as Sir Lancelot.
Those interested in purchasing tickets for the event, please call The Maxwell Institute at 914 337-6033.
