Assessor Arraigned On Grand Larceny Charges

Westchester Crime & Police NewsWhite Plains, NY - The Westchester County District Attorney's office has announced that Gordon Washburn, 57, of Mount Pleasant, New York was arraigned on one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, one count of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, and two counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing.

Over a five year period, from October, 2002 and September, 2007, the defendant submitted approximately $4,000 in vouchers for reimbursement of work related expenses to the Village of Pleasantville Accounting Department, which he was not entitled to receive.

Washburn who was employed as the Assessor in the Village of Pleasantville, submitted vouchers to the Village for expenses, which the defendant had previously submitted for reimbursement with the Town of Lewisboro and/or State of New York Office of Real Property Services and was reimbursed for these expenses by the Town of Lewisboro and/or State of New York Office of Real Property Services.

Additionally, over the same time period, the defendant submitted approximately $3,000 in vouchers for reimbursement of work related expenses to the Town of Lewisboro, which he was not entitled to receive.

Washburn, who is employed as the Assessor in the Town of Lewisboro, submitted vouchers to the Town of Lewisboro for various job related expenses, which he had previously for reimbursement with the Village of Pleasantville and/or State of New York Office of Real Property Services and was reimbursed for these expenses by the Village of Pleasantville and/or State of New York Office of Real Property Services.

In essence, the defendant was "double-dipping" his claims for reimbursement of job-related expenses to both municipalities and the State of New York.

The total larceny from the Village, Town and State is approximately $7,000.

Bail was set in the Village of Pleasantville at $500. He will be arraigned in the Town of Lewisboro tonight.

Washburn’s next court date in Pleasantville will be on July 29th, 2008.

He faces a maximum of seven years in state prison on the top count of the complaint.

Assistant District Attorney Berit Hayes-Huseby, of the Public Integrity Bureau will prosecute the case.
