Yonkers, NY - In 2007, a "drought" was claimed throughout food banks in America. Cuts in certain federal funding, and an increased need due to the lagging economy have left shelves bare, and families hungry. The Food Bank of New York, one of New York's largest providers of local food pantries marks a 55 percent increase in the number of New Yorkers who have difficulty affording food.
Surprisingly this group is mostly middle income households that are struggling to deal with the rise of the cost of living.
To respond to this rising need, youth peace-builders working with the Global Peace Festival to launch an ongoing initiative called A Million Acts of Service and Kindness (millionacts.org), are coming out full force in the Yonkers community to host a city-wide food drive. They will be accepting donations at the following food pantries: Pressley Memorial Church, 38 Warburton Ave., St. Peter's Church, 91 Ludlow St., Community Memorial Baptist Church 132 Waverly St. They will also be placing themselves at local grocery stores around Yonkers. To make a food donation please call, Riko Burke at (917) 359- 2450. Please donate non-perishable items only. Most in need items are canned fish or meat, boxed meals (pasta, potatoes, rice), canned meals (stews, meaty soups, chili, mac and cheese), canned vegetables and fruit, 100% Fruit Juice in plastic bottles or juice boxes.
The Global Peace Festival (gpfusa.org) will be held on August 9th, at the D.C. Mall on Capitol Hill . There, powerful partners, like the United Way, Service for Peace, Points of Light and the Hands on Network and the Universal Peace Federation are rallying the families of America to cross barriers of culture, race and religion to forge a commitment of building a world of peace, "One Family Under God".
For the peace festivals, ongoing projects carried out throughout the year are a significant part of this event. If you are part of an ongoing project that builds peace across racial, religious and cultural barriers, or simply want to show your stand for peace, come celebrate with us! Youth ministry networks, community service organizations and youth leadership organizations of New York are teaming together for this celebration of service and peace. Some partners are the American Clergy Leadership Conference, Global Eco Living Associates, the Ambassadors for Peace, March for Peace, and many more.
In the words of Dr. King: "We must learn to live together as brothers, or perish together as fools."

Most of the other groups are either Moon front groups, organizations Moon has given money, or likely uninformed as to what this is all about.
The UPF cry is "One family under God" it should be "One family under Moon."
