White Plains St. Patrick's Day Parade

Westchester Community NewsWhite Plains, NY - Mayor Delfino and the White Plains St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee invites you to the 12th Annual White Plains St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 14, 2009 in Downtown White Plains.

This festive community parade and celebration will begins at noon, at the junction of Mamaroneck Avenue and Old Mamaroneck Road, then continue north up Mamaroneck Avenue, right onto Main Street and will end at White Plains City Hall.  The parade will include over 20 bands and many community marching groups as well as five floats. Prior to the parade  a solemn mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 9:00 am in White Plains.

Prior to the parade, on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 6:30pm a favorite tradition, installation of the Grand Marshal, will take place at Vintage Restaurant at 171 Main Street, White Plains. The Grand Marshal of this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is Marie McMahon, and her aides are Coleen Noonan, Marie Norton, Sally Flanagan Seguro, Rev. Tom Collins, Mike Daly, and Ken Meade.

A lifetime White Plains resident, Grand Marshal McMahon is the current position as President of the McMahon Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home. Marie is a parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows Church where she is a Eucharistic Minister.  She also is a member of the White Plains Women’s Club.  As the torch bearer of the family-owned and operated business of 67 years, and Marie is following in her father’s footsteps. The citizens of the City of White Plains have been blessed to have Marie’s personal touch and compassion for their families sorrow in times of need.

Mayor Defino says, "Every year, the St. Patrick's Day Parade fills Mamaroneck Avenue with music, color and smiling Irish eyes -- no matter what our true heritage is.  On St. Patrick's Day, we are all one -- just as we are at all the other ethnic parades and events in White Plains.  I'm so proud that this City is one in which people are invited to express their cultural and rejoice in our diversity."

After the parade there will be an Irish Cultural Tour featuring Irish music, bagpipers, dance, bar sports and food at ten local downtown pubs. Free transportation will be provided along the Cultural Tour route by White Plains Bus Company.

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade sponsors are Heineken USA, the White Plains Business Improvement District, Post Road Entertainment, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians – White Plains.
