Mt. Kisco, NY - Bring you children so they can learn about goats and gardening, or explore the vernal pools, spot some interesting birds and take part in some healthful farm chores during April at Muscoot Farm in Somers.
Caring for Goats: Pre-K Program for Children Ages 3-5, Friday, April 4, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
or 1 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Children will have an opportunity to learn about the farm’s goats through hands-on experience. Pre-registration required; fee $10 per child. Call for a registration form.
Vernal Pools, Sunday, April 6, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Join the farm naturalist for a hike to the vernal pools to see the wood frogs and fairy shrimp. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
Stone Wall Workshop, Saturday, April 19, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Learn the art of stone wall building with horticulturist Greg Waters and park ranger Christopher Gezon from Weir Farm National Historic Site as they rebuild one of Muscoot’s old stone walls. Pre-registration required; fee $20 per person. Space is limited. Call for a registration form.
Gardening for Kids, Sunday, April 20, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Now is the time to start the garden at the farm. Bring work gloves, wear old clothes and plan to get dirty.
Morning Farm Chores, Friday, April 25, 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
Join the farm staff in taking care of the animals. Pre-registration required; $5 fee per person. Space is limited.
Early Spring Bird Walk, Saturday, April 26, 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
Early spring migrants are easier to see now than when the trees are full of leaves. Come see and learn to identify by song our returning migratory birds. Jeanne Waful will lead this easy hike full of the wonderful surprises of spring.
Farm Fun with Junior Volunteers, Sunday, April 27, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Join the Muscoot Junior Volunteers as they explain the animals that live on the farm. Play games and enjoy other activities.
Many Muscoot programs are part of Be Fit Westchester, a county-wide effort to get people to eat smarter and play harder every day.
Muscoot is a Westchester County Park located on Route 100 in Somers and can be reached via I-684, exit 6. Go west on Route 35 to Route 100 and turn left; the farm is a mile and a half ahead on the right. The farm is accessible to the disabled with assistance.
