United Black Clergy To Hold Inaugural Prayer Brunch

Westchester Community NewsMt. Vernon, NY - The United Black Clergy of Westchester announced that “In God We Trust: A Prayer For Our Nation,” a brunch and inaugural ceremony viewing, will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Greater Centennial AME Zion Church in Mount Vernon, NY.

“In God We Trust: A Prayer For Our Nation” was created in response to the overwhelming excitement surrounding the election of the nation’s first African American president and concern for the many challenges President Elect Obama and other elected and appointed officials will face over the next four years.  The prayer brunch will offer an opportunity for community members from various denominations to fellowship together in celebration and faith. Additionally, the program provides an option for those who are unable to attend the inaugural activities in Washington DC to participate in the historic occasion with other members of the community.

"The inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America is a monumental event” says Rev. W. Darin Moore, President of the United Black Clergy. “It represents more than the success of a brilliant young man, it is the realization of the hopes and dreams of generations of a people who endured the depths of humiliation and have overcome to attain the highest office in the land.”

Rev. Dr. Richard H. Dixon, Jr., Civil Rights Activist and Pastor Emeritus of Macedonia Baptist Church will provide the inspirational message prior to the live feed of the inaugural swearing in ceremony. In 1964, Rev. Dixon accompanied Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to accept his Noble Peace Prize award.

The United Black Clergy (UBC) is an organization of more than 40 religious leaders throughout Westchester County. The mission of UBC is to provide a forum for interdenominational fellowship among members of the clergy as they educate and advocate for the spiritual, educational, political and economic advancement of our community.

Attendance to “In God We Trust: A Prayer for Our Nation” is open to the public. Doors will open at 10:00 AM and the program will begin at 10:30AM. Donation for the brunch is only $10. To purchase tickets, please contact (914) 664-1838 x 101.
