Scarsdale, NY - On Thursday, October 23, Rabbi Sue Levi Elwell will be the guest speaker at the Autumn Dinner hosted by the Women of Reform Judaism, to be held at Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale.
Her presentation, entitled “The Poetry of Torah and the Torah of Poetry,” will begin at 7:45 p.m., following a 6:00 p.m. dinner.
Rabbi Elwell, who has been teaching and writing about Jewish women’s history and feminist spirituality for the past twenty years, was the founding director of the American Jewish Congress Feminist Center in Los Angeles, and served as the first rabbinic director of Ma’yan in New York City.
She has served congregations in California, New Jersey and Virginia, and has worked as rabbi and chaplain of Beit T’Shuvah, a residential program for Jewish felons and other recovering addicts.
Currently, Rabbi Elwell serves as director of the URJ Pennsylvania Council and the Federation of Reform Synagogues of Greater Philadelphia, as well as co-president of the Women’s Rabbinic Network. Among many publications she has authored or edited, Elwell is a co-editor of The Open Door, the new CCAR Haggadah (2002), and is a contributor to Torah: A Woman’s Commentary. Her presentation at the WRJ Autumn Dinner will focus on the “Voices” section of the Woman’s Commentary.
