Mt. Kisco, NY - A historical re-enactment group will open a portal into history when they perform for visitors at this year’s 32nd annual Polish Heritage Festival on Sunday, July 19, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla.
The Banner of Jasna Gora will present a rare opportunity for visitors to learn about and interact with a period of Polish history that is largely unknown to modern society.
The group comprises historical re-enactors from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware and is named in honor of the defenders of the Jasna Gora Monastery during the 1655 Swedish deluge. Dressed in costumes of the time period, they portray characters that one would have encountered in a Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth during the 17th century.
In addition, the festival will also feature live Polka music by the Gemtones and the Polonaise Dancers of Maspeth, Queens, costumed dancers in traditional dress who will perform folk dances. The children of the Polska Subotnia Szkola group, a heritage group from the Church of Saint Casimir in Yonkers, will recite famous Polish poetry and sing traditional children’s folk songs. Visitors can also meet this year’s Pulaski Day Parade marshal and the reigning Miss Polonia.
Admission and parking for the festival are free.
This event is sponsored by Westchester County Parks and the Westchester Pulaski Association.
The Kensico Dam Plaza is located at the northern end of the Bronx River Parkway in Valhalla, and is accessible via the Westchester BEE-LINE bus system, Route #6 from the White Plains TransCenter.
