Planning For A Sequence Of Blooms At Lasdon
Posted by Westchester.com

Westchester Community NewsMt. Kisco, NY - Your garden can be vibrant and colorful all season long if you plan correctly, and you can learn some excellent blooming sequence strategies on Sunday, March 30, at Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial in Somers.

From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Lasdon’s horticulturalist Tolly Beck will screen a slide presentation of great perennials arranged according to the months they are in bloom. Many perennials bloom only for a few short weeks, so it is important to know when they are in flower. Beck will show how by combining shorter-flowering plants with longer-lasting ones it is possible to have a colorful garden for months.

Pre-registration is required by calling Lasdon at (914) 864-7263. There is no fee for the program.

Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial is a 234-acre park and developing arboretum featuring many species of trees, shrubs and perennials, and is home to the Lasdon Memorial Garden, and the Famous and Historic Tree Trail. Memorials honoring Westchester veterans are also located at the park, along with the Westchester Veterans Museum which features a collection of military memorabilia and exhibits. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It can be reached via I-684, exit 6. Head west off the exit; the park is approximately four miles ahead on the left. Or, take the Taconic State Parkway to Route 202/Route 35 exit; the park is 3.5 miles ahead on the right.
