Mt. Kisco, NY - Bring your flashlight for Muscoot Farm’s first Owl Prowl, a nighttime exploration through the woods in search of the bird that hunts in the dark, or come earlier in the day and learn how to make your own scented soap, Saturday, November 8, at Muscoot Farm in Somers.
From 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. join Frank Gallo from the Connecticut Audubon Society as he discusses the life cycles and behaviors of owls that live in our area, and the special characteristics they possess that make them such effective hunters. Then, he will lead a walk through the forest in search of owls.
Owls feed on a wide variety of prey including mammals, other birds, insects, and reptiles. Most owls are nocturnal, but a few species (such as the pygmy owl) are active in the early morning or at dusk while some (such as the burrowing owl and the short-eared owl) are active during the day.
Participants should dress for the weather and bring a flashlight. No reservations are required and there is no fee to attend this program.
Earlier on Saturday, Muscoot will host a Soap Making Workshop from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mia Camacho, from the Clean Ridge Soap Company, will demonstrate soap making with the cold process technique used by many professional soap makers. Participants will make bars using herbs, colorants and essential oils, then learn to package and wrap the bars. “How-to” literature for future soap making at home will be available as well.
Reservations are required for this workshop and a $40 fee will be charged. For more information or to make your reservations, please call Muscoot at (914) 864-7282. Space is limited.
