NY Times Columnist To Speak At Pace Law

Westchester Community NewsWhite Plains, NY - The New York Times columnist who coined the phrase “the opt-out revolution” will bring her own brand of feminism to Pace Law School in a one-day colloquium on balancing work and home life, focused on women in one of the most demanding careers, the law.

Lisa Belkin, award-winning author and New York Times columnist who covers the balance – or imbalance – of home life and work responsibilities each week will be the dinner keynote speaker at the October 24 event titled “Women and the Law: How Far We’ve Come and Where We Need to Go.” Co-sponsored by Pace Law School organizations and the Westchester Women’s Bar Association, the event takes place at the New York Judicial Institute at Pace Law School, 78 North Broadway in White Plains.

The event will begin at 3:00 p.m. with two panel discussions: “How to Navigate the Road to Success” and “Initiatives, Programs and Retention of Women Lawyers.” Both panels are free and open to the public. Media admission by press pass.

A networking cocktail reception will follow from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. ($15.00 fee) and dinner is 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. ($75.00, includes cost of cocktail reception).

How employer initiatives work. Belkin is also a contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine, where she writes frequently about family life. She is the host of “Life’s Work with Lisa Belkin” on XM satellite radio and the author of three books, including Life’s Work: Confessions of an Unbalanced Mom. Belkin coined the phrase “the opt-out revolution” – now a part of the American lexicon – in her October 2003 New York Times article of that title. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University.

The event offers the opportunity to learn from experienced lawyers who have navigated the road to success and created or taken advantage of women friendly initiatives at their employers. Panelists will also discuss the worthiness of initiatives such as off-ramp and on-ramp/reentry programs, work-life balance policies, and the marketing pushes of ranking and grading systems based on “women friendly” policies.

Panelists include:
