Westchester Community NewsScarsdale, NY - Dr. Martin S. Indyk, a former U.S. Ambassador to Israel and a Middle East expert, will speak on Sunday, May 18 at 10:30 a.m. at Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale.

Currently, Dr. Indyk is the director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy and a senior fellow in the Foreign Policy Studies Program at the Brookings Institution.  As Ambassador, Dr. Indyk served two tours in Israel, the first during the Rabin years (1995-97), and the second (2000- June 2001) during efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace and stem the violence of the intifadah.  Prior to his first assignment in Israel, Dr. Indyk served as special assistant to President Clinton and as senior director of Near East and South Asian Affairs at the National Security Council.  In the second Clinton administration, he was appointed Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs, responsible for Middle East policy under Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

Before entering government service, Dr. Indyk served for eight years as founding Executive Director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. He has also been an adjunct professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and has taught at the Middle East Institute at Columbia University, the Dayan Center for Middle East Studies at Tel Aviv University, and the Department of Politics at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Indyk has published widely on U.S. policy concerning the Arab-Israeli peace process and the complex challenges of the Middle East.

The lecture, which is presented by the annual Gantcher Family lecture series, will also include a 10 a.m. breakfast sponsored by the temple’s Men’s Club.  This event is free and open to the public at Westchester Reform Temple, located at 255 Mamaroneck Road in Scarsdale, NY.  For directions or information, call the temple at 914-723-7727, or email: This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .
