May Family Programs At Muscoot Farm

Kisco, NY - Enjoy locally grown fresh produce at a genuine farmers market, learn the art of blacksmithing, take a healthful walk to spot interesting birds or help your children decorate Mother’s Day gifts and cards -- all this and more in the “merry month of May” at Muscoot Farm in Somers.

Main House Gallery -- Saturdays and Sundays in May, noon to 4 p.m.
Local artists display their work in the Main House.

Blacksmithing Workshop – Saturday, May 3, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Blacksmith Bill Fitzgerald will demonstrate the technique of blacksmithing. Space is limited to only 5 participants. Pre-registration required; fee $80.

For Mom, with Love -- Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Children decorate a gift and create a card to give their Mom on Mother’s Day.

Sheep Shearing -- Sunday, May 11, 1 p.m.
May is sheep shearing time on the farm. Watch the sheep get their spring haircuts.

Spring Bird Walk -- Saturday, May 17, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Spring is here and the neo-tropical birds are migrating back. Look and listen to the birds, discuss migration and look for all the signs of spring.

Spring Fest -- Sunday, May 18, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Enjoy an afternoon of music, games and other fun activities.

Jam Making Workshop -- Saturday, May 24, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Join Master Gardner Charlotte as she demonstrates the process of making jams. Pre-registration required.

Meet the Baby Animals, Sunday -- May 25, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
It’s spring and Muscoot’s farm animals are having their babies. Tour the farm complex and meet the new arrivals.

Muscoot Farmers Market -- Sunday, May 25, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Support local farmers and sustainability and enjoy a day at the farm during the first Muscoot Farm farmers market. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish, chutney, and delicious baked goods are all available at the market. Takes place every Sunday until October 26.

Morning Farm Chores -- Monday, May 26, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Join the farm staff as we feed, groom and take care of the animals. Pre-registration required; fee $5 per person.

Bird Walk -- Saturday, May 31, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
It’s mating season for many species of birds. Learn about the mating habits and behaviors, including their songs. 

Many Muscoot programs are part of Be Fit Westchester, a county-wide effort to get people to eat smarter and play harder every day.

Muscoot is a Westchester County Park located on Route 100 in Somers and can be reached via I-684, exit 6. Go west on Route 35 to Route 100 and turn left; the farm is a mile and a half ahead on the right. The farm is accessible to the disabled with assistance.
