Mamaroneck, NY - The Village of Mamaroneck Council of the Arts, to cultivate a better understanding of our Hispanic immigrant residents through art and culture, presents a Fall Fiesta on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 12-4 p.m. in Harbor Island Park.
Admission to this family-friendly event, co-sponsored by the Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont/Mamaroneck and timed to coincide with Hispanic Heritage Month, is free, and will feature daylong performances celebrating Latino arts, including music, dance, writing and culture.
Musicians and dancers will perform on an outdoor stage while members of Artistico, a workshop for recent immigrants, display and sell their arts and crafts, including jewelry and beading, in the Harbor Island Park Pavilion. Children are invited to participate in a free piñata-making workshop.
Other participants include the Mamaroneck Library, offering Spanish-language Story Time; the Hudson Valley Writers Group; and several local restaurants and arts groups. A variety of foods will be available for sale.
The Fall Fiesta will also feature "Memories of My Country," a riveting art display of memory boxes done by mothers and their children with objects and colors related to their countries of origin, created in partnership between the Rye Arts Center and the Hispanic Resource Center.
For more information, contact the Mamaroneck Village Council on the Arts (www.mvartsc.org). Harbor Island Park is located at the southern end of Mamaroneck Avenue, at the intersection with the Boston Post Road.
The Mamaroneck Village Council on the Arts' purpose is to promote the performing and cultural arts within the village, and to attract to the village entertainment on as many different levels and in as many different fields as possible.
The Hispanic Resource Center advocates for people in need and promotes cultural, economic, educational and professional integration between the recently-arrived and the already established larger community.
