Mt. Kisco, NY - Visitors can sample the sumptuous southern Italian fare that will be created by the Chef-of-the-Month as they shop the farm fresh produce, cheeses, baked goods, meats, poultry and food products during the last Indoor Farmers’ Market of the season on Sunday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
Guest chef of the month will be Westchester resident Rose Cappa who is author of the Italian cookbook Come Si Fa. . . How do you make that? From 12 noon to 2 p.m., Ms. Cappa who will make garden vegetable-inspired Italian favorites that are great for outdoor concerts, picnics or just for a light lunch or supper. Shoppers can watch her make Pane Pomodoro (Bread and Tomatoes) a very provincial version of bruschetta; String Bean and Potato Salad, a garlicky salad with string beans, hard boiled, eggs, potatoes, vinegar and oil; and Ciambotta, a mix of grilled or fried vegetables served with fresh bread, similar to ratatouille. Recipes will be available, along with copies of her cookbook for purchase.
In an effort to capture the “edible” heritage of her family, Rose Cappa began to collect special recipes handed down from generation to generation in her own large Italian family. Her book includes more than 140 recipes partnered with family photos and the stories behind each dish. Recipes include appetizers, soups, pasta and meat dishes, vegetable dishes, salads and a delicious variety of desserts that are guaranteed to add lots of fun and flavor to your next dinner party or family event.
Music for the day will be provided by the Music Conservatory of Westchester’s Beginner and Intermediate Jazz Group and Teen Vocal Choir.
The Farmers’ Market offers dairy products, cheeses, baked goods, maple syrup, honey and jams, along with meats, poultry and wines. Shoppers can sample food to help make their selections as they make their way through the market.
Admission is free. Parking at the County Center lot is $4.
