Westchester Community NewsWhite Plains, NY - Visitors to the 15th Annual Westchester Craft Show at the Westchester County Center on Friday, October 17th will have the opportunity to attend two special programs that are sure to expand their knowledge and appreciation of fine contemporary craft.

During the first program, at 10:30 a.m., "Elements of Design and Structure: Insights on Sculptural Furniture Construction," Rochester furniture maker Scott Grove (formerly of Cortlandt Manor) will discuss contemporary furniture design and the materials and techniques he uses in the creation of his award-winning sculptural furniture. Grove has appeared on "The Furniture Show" on Home & Garden's HGTV. He has also been featured in a number of articles in Fine Woodworking magazine and is a contributing columnist to Woodshop News.

At 1:30 p.m., prominent critic, curator, writer and educator Judith Schwartz, Ph.D., will lead a panel discussion on "Contemporary Ceramic Artists Explore Their Diverse Cultural Influences." Dr. Schwartz is a professor in the Department of Art and Art Professions at New York University. During this discussion, nationally known ceramic craft artists Cliff Lee, Noi Volkov and Lindsay Feuer will speak about how they draw on their cultural identities and will explore how these differences have influenced their approach to their medium and their working styles. Cliff Lee was raised in Taiwan, Noi Volkov is from Russia, and Lindsay Feuer is an American.

This year the Westchester Craft Show is one of more than 60 venues participating in All Fired Up! A Celebration of Clay in Westchester, organized by the Westchester Arts Council, the Clay Arts Center and other local cultural organizations.
