LGBT Town Meeting June 11

Westchester Community NewsWhite Plains, NY - The Westchester County LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) Advisory Board will hold a Town Hall Meeting Wednesday, June 11 to celebrate Pride Month and present awards to recognize outstanding dedication to the LGBT community.

The event will take place at the Westchester County Center, White Plains, beginning at 6:30 p.m. LGBT community members and their friends, families and allies are invited to attend.

An individual service award will be presented to Laura Newman, the former Westchester County liaison to the LGBT community, for her service in the nonprofit and government sectors for the LGBT community in Westchester for well over a decade. A posthumous award will be given to Ingrid E. Barnes, for a lifetime of service to the LGBT community in different capacities in Westchester and the lower Hudson Valley. The award will be accepted by her partner, Karen Lumley.

A corporate service award will be given to PepsiCo, Inc. for its ongoing support of LGBT causes and for its commitment to fairness for LGBT employees.  PepsiCo’s award will be accepted by Hugh Johnson, the president of Pepsi Cola North America. A small business award will be presented to radio station WVOX of  New Rochelle, which has opened up its programming to several LGBT radio shows. The award will be accepted by James “D” the host of “We Are Gay Today,” a weekly show.

The event  will include a presentation by the LGBT Advisory Board on its work for the LGBT community and an opportunity for participants to voice concerns and suggestions. In addition, local LGBT community organizations will have exhibit tables. A number of Westchester County departments that work with or want to work with the LGBT community will be on hand to talk with people who might be interested in the products and services Westchester County has for the LGBT community.
