Immigration Film And Discussion In Irvington

Westchester Community NewsDobbs Ferry, NY - Cabrini Immigrant Services (CIS), Dobbs Ferry, and Pax Christie of Immaculate Church, Irvington, are co-sponsoring a free film and discussion program about immigration on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 6pm.

The event, open to the public, will take place in the parish school auditorium at 16 N. Broadway, Irvington.

The documentary film,  “The Invisible Chapel,” is the story of an immigrant population and its church,set in an affluent suburban area. The subsequent discussion will focus on faith and the lived experience. A light supper will follow.

St. Cabrini Nursing Home  sponsors CIS  in keeping with the vision of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, worldwide Patroness of Immigrants. Since its opening in 1998, the program has served thousands of immigrants from more than 100 nations. Its services have included broad-based essential services, including English and reading classes, citizenship education, health care referrals and screenings, assistance with benefits, employment and naturalization and immigration issues, and after school homework support.

St. Cabrini Nursing Home is a non-profit 304-bed skilled nursing facility which also  includes St. Cabrini Long Term Home Health; St. Cabrini Short-Term Stay Respite Program; Msgr. Terence Attridge Adult Day Center; Cabrini Care at Home; and Cabrini Immigrant Services.  Opened in 1973,  the home is sponsored by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of  Jesus and part of a long tradition of care for the elderly and chronically ill.
