Rye, NY - Three Westchester synagogues will jointly sponsor a Holocaust Commemoration service to remember the 6 million Jews murdered during the Nazi domination of Europe in the 1930s and 1940s.
The event - known in Hebrew as "Yom Ha Shoah" - will be held at Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel in Port Chester on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and is co-sponsored by Community Synagogue (Rye) and J.C.C. of Harrison, along with Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel.
This annual event, which is open to the public, will include a program of readings, music and prayer, and will involve congregants and youth groups from all three synagogues. Holocaust survivors will share in the program, which will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. with a memorial candlelighting to recall those who were martyred in the concentration camps and ghettoes.
Congregation KTI is located at 575 King St. in Port Chester; for directions or further information, call 939-1004, or Community Synagogue at 967-6262.
