Westchester Community NewsScarsdale, NY - On Sunday, June 8, 2008, from 12:00 noon to 4 p.m., the Greenburgh Nature Center will be holding its third annual Growing Green Family Festival.

The Festival features a family fair of children’s games, hayrides, and live music, alongside exhibitions of businesses and organizations providing products, services, and information about conservation and environmental sustainability.

All the activities will take place on the Center's 33 acres of lawns, woodlands, and gardens.  In case of rain, activities will be held under tents and indoors.  All proceeds from the festival will benefit the Center’s nature education programs. The event's major sponsors are Cablevision and New York Power Authority. Other sponsors include Central Animal Hospital, Commerce Bank, Patriot National Bank, and Westchester County Parks Department.

Admission prices are: $1 for adult GNC members, $2 for adult non-members;  $7 for GNC member children, and $10 for non-member children.  Children under 2 are free.  Each child's admission fee includes 10 activity tickets.  Extra tickets can be purchased for 50 cents per ticket.  Activities and events include live entertainment, hayrides, a petting zoo, face painting, T-shirt painting and games.

This year’s “growing green” exhibitors include alternative energy and transportation companies, sustainable land use services, local school and government sustainability programs, and environmental organizations such as the Sierra Club and Rainforest Alliance.  A variety of foods and refreshments will be sold throughout the Festival.

The featured entertainer of the afternoon is Conroy Warren, a musician who was born in Antigua and raised in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. At 2:00 p.m. Mr. Warren will lead participants in a “Caribbean Music” program of stories, song and dance about life in the West Indies. Mr. Warren brings along a large supply of percussion instruments and objects for people to use, and activities end with an informal “limbo” contest.

The Greenburgh Nature Center is located at 99 Dromore Road, off Central Park Avenue, in Scarsdale, NY. Parking is free, and handicapped parking is available. The center’s grounds are open daily dawn to dusk throughout the year. The Manor House exhibits are open daily except Fridays and a few holidays, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on weekends. For further information, call (914) 723-3470 or visit the website www.greenburghnaturecenter.org.
