Valhalla, NY - The Native Plant Center at Westchester Community College is sponsoring “Garden with the Environment in Mind,” a lecture on Sunday, September 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the college’s Classroom Building, room 200.
Gardening now carries moral and ecological responsibilities that we cannot ignore. Dr. Douglas Tallamy’s presentation will emphasize the importance of both the home garden and the home gardener as attendees learn to create gardens beneficial to our ecosystem.
The Native Plant Center was established by the Westchester Community College Foundation on the grounds of the college in 1998 to educate individuals on the importance of wildflowers and native plants of the Northeast. As the first national affiliate of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, the Center builds on the work begun by the former First Lady to preserve the natural landscape of America. The Center serves as a community resource where information is shared on choosing, growing, and maintaining native plants. The Center host nationally-known speakers, and holds annual events including a highly successful plant sale. Its mission is to educate people about the environmental necessity, economic value and natural beauty of native plants.
Admission, payable at the door, is $10 (free to Native Plant Center members). For more information, contact The Native Plant Center via email at
