Westchester Community NewsMt. Kisco, NY - Ursula and Thomas LaMotte of Bedford, NY have been selected to receive the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester’s 2009 Humanitarian of the Year Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a Club supporter.

The LaMottes will be recognized for their many years of outstanding service at the 15th annual Humanitarian Award Dinner, the organization’s largest fundraising event.

Former Westchester County Legislator Ursula G. LaMotte has a distinguished record of public service. Ursula became a Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester board member in 1996. She served as President and 1st Vice-President of the United Way of Northern Westchester and Chair of the Bedford/Pound Ridge/Lewisboro Drug Abuse Prevention Council. Other board memberships include the Westchester's Children's Association, the Children's Aid Society of New York, the Visiting Nurse Association of Hudson Valley, and the President’s Council of the Northern Westchester Hospital.

While on the Westchester County Board of Legislators, Ursula LaMotte represented the towns of Bedford, Pound Ridge, Lewisboro, North Salem, half of Somers and the Village of Mt. Kisco. Prior to serving as a County Legislator, she served two terms as a Bedford Town Councilwoman and Deputy Town Supervisor. Her efforts as a Bedford Town Councilwoman led to the passage of landmark groundwater protection legislation, which was the first of its kind for any town in New York State. She also helped found the Pound Ridge Recycling Program and has served on the Pound Ridge Conservation Board. She attended Smith College and earned a B.A. in History from Pace University.

Thomas LaMotte has a long history of giving back to his community. He is a board member and active singer in the Westchester Chordsmen Chorus and a member of the Bedford Republican Town Committee. Thomas is the former Chairman of the SPCA of Westchester. Other former board memberships include the Westchester Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, the Rippowam Cisqua School, as well as the Alumni Boards of the Westminster School and the University of Colorado Business School.

Prior to retirement, Thomas LaMotte was President of Prime Office Systems, a company owning and operating executive suits in New York and Connecticut. He began his career as a Trust Officer with The County Trust Company (later to become part of Bank of New York) and opened his own commercial real estate firm, LaMotte Company, in 1967. He received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and M.B.A. from the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Ursula and Thomas LaMotte have been married for 47 years. They have three grown children, Noël, Shelby, and Thomas, Jr., and five grandsons.

“Ursula and Thomas LaMotte are an inspiration to this community at large,” said Brian Skanes, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northern Westchester. “They are wonderful supporters and contribute their own unique talents to better our Club. We are fortunate to have them as part of our team.”

The Humanitarian Awards Dinner will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY. All proceeds from the event provide scholarships for children in need and support programs and services for 3,000 youths at the Club’s three locations in Mount Kisco, Tarrytown, and Yorktown.

Past honorees of the Humanitarian Gala include Laureen Barber, Leslie Cecil, John and Amy Crabtree, Muffin Ziminsky Dowdle, Skip and Michaela Beitzel, Peter and Sara Tucker, Ken and Margaret O’Gara, Kelly and Rick Wietsma, Kevin Bannon, Bonnie Trotta and Seema Boesky, Dana and Christopher Reeve, Carll and Diane Tucker, Kalman Fox, and Dan Hollis.
