White Plains, NY - Get healthy – and have fun doing it – by stopping by for a little soul food sampling at the African American Heritage Celebration Sunday, June 28, at the Kensico Dam.
Aiming to cater to an even larger crowd, Westchester County’s Office of African American Affairs and African American Advisory Board will incorporate their traditional Soul Food Cook-Out event into the weekend’s festivities by offering up free fiery grilled sweet potatoes prepared by Kings Southern Delight Corporation in Mt. Vernon. Of course, as always, there is a catch: you need to take advantage of free health screenings first. Check your blood pressure, waist measurements, and body mass index (BMI), or get tested for HIV and STDs.
The festival, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, will run from noon to 7 p.m. and include live entertainment, ethnic foods, exhibits by a coalition of African American organizations, vendors, games and children’s activities, raffles and great prizes. Westchester County is also bringing its Be Fit Mobile, a fitness center on wheels that shows kids how they can have fun while being healthy. Join in the three-legged race, egg and spoon race, and Hula Hoop and jump rope games.
