Valhalla, NY - The Hudson Ferry-Go-Round returns to the Hudson Valley on Sunday, Sept. 14, featuring high-speed ferries linking Haverstraw, Peekskill, Ossining and Sleepy Hollow, all of which are to host exciting special events open to the public.
The fifth annual Hudson Ferry-Go-Round runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with free buses shuttling people from the ferry docks to special events such as concerts, street fairs, arts shows and food festivals to be held in each town. Historic Hudson River Towns is the organizer of the event.
“The Hudson River is one of the most picturesque waterways in the world and the Hudson Ferry-Go-Round is a perfect vehicle for reconnecting people of all ages to the river and the historic towns lining its shores,” said Martin Ginsburg, founder of the event and CEO of Ginsburg Development Companies, one of the event sponsors. “Ferry-Go-Round shows what a tremendous resource we have at our doorsteps in the Hudson River. What better way to celebrate the upcoming Quadricentennial than by riding on the river and enjoying a fun day in its riverfront communities.”
Among the signature events planned for the day are the Haverstraw International Street Fair, Ossining’s Arts-on-Main, the Sleepy Hollow Street Fair, Peekskill Project – a contemporary arts exhibition in the streets of Peekskill – and the Road Knights Car Show in Peekskill.
Ferry-Go-Round participants last year took 9,500 individual trips among the four towns, and event organizers expect to exceed that number this year. The Ferry-Go-Round has focused increased attention on the Hudson River as the region gears up for next year’s Quadricentennial – the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s voyage of discovery on the river named for him.
Ferry-Go-Round all-day passes are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors. Children 17 or younger ride free when accompanied by an adult. The public can board on a first-come, first-served basis, approximately every 40 to 60 minutes. For more information and directions to ferry docks and parking, go to www.ferrygoround.com.
