White Plains, NY - Recycling has been the buzzword in recent months for Westchester’s major push to get residents, businesses, schools and others to sort more recyclables from their trash and to protect the environment.
Since the decision to step up enforcement of the county’s mandatory recycling, the amount of recyclables brought in to the county’s Recycling Center has increased by 23 percent in weight and garbage has, at the same time, decreased by 13 percent compared to the same period last year.
As part of this year’s Westchester Earth Day Celebration, 39 municipal governments, schools, community organizations and individuals will be acknowledged for their extra efforts in recycling which helps combat climate change.
The Earth Day event will be held on Sunday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. The awards, to be presented at 12:30 p.m., are in recognition of recycling efforts over the past year:
