Recruitment Open For Electrician Apprentices

Westchester Business NewsWhite Plains, NY - The Westchester-Fairfield Joint Electrical Apprenticeship Committee, IBEW Local 3, will open recruitment from March 3 through March 17, 2008 for 50 apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced.

Applications can be obtained by sending a registered letter only to Westchester-Fairfield Joint Electrical Apprenticeship Committee, PO Box 343, White Plains, NY 10605-0332. Letters must contain the applicant's name (print) and address, including zip code. Letters must not be postmarked before March 3, or after March 17, 2008. The first 450 requests, or the total received on the first day if in excess, will receive applications.

The committee requires that applicants:

    * Be at least 18 years.
    * Have a high school or general equivalency diploma, with a passing grade in one year of algebra -- transcript required after acceptance for the program.
    * Have lived within a 50-mile radius of White Plains, NY, including Connecticut, for the past two years.
    * Have a valid driver’s license and a reliable means of transportation to work and apprentice school.
    * Take an aptitude test.
    * Take a physical examination by a physician selected by the committee at the committee's expense, after selection for the program.
    * Pay a $20 non-refundable processing fee.

For further information, applicants should contact the New York State Department of Labor office located nearest their home or the sponsor at 914-946-0472.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
