Mt. Vernon, NY - In an effort to level the playing field when it comes to opportunity and access to capital and contracting opportunities, the City of Mount Vernon has launched a program focusing on Minority & Women’s Business Enterprises (MWBE).
The mission of the Minority & Women’s Business Development (MWBD) program is to promote equality of economic opportunities for MWBEs and to eliminate barriers to their participation in obtaining state contracts.
“My administration is serious about equal access to economic opportunity and our Minority and Women’s Business Development program will ensure that minority and woman owned businesses are competing on a level playing field.” said Mayor Clinton I. Young, Jr.
The MWBD program performs three major functions:
1.To encourage and assist departments, developers and agencies that are engaged in contracting activities to award a fair share of local contracts to MWBEs;
2.To review applications by businesses seeking certification as an MWBE and to maintain a directory of certified MWBEs; and
3.To promote the business development of MWBEs through education and outreach to city departments, developers, local agencies and MWBEs.
The MWBD program is committed to achieving Mayor Young's vision for increasing opportunity for the City Of Mount Vernon’s MWBEs in the cities database and those yet to be certified.
