White Plains, NY - On Thursday, June 19, The Business Council of Westchester will present 40 young professionals with Rising Star awards during a ceremony at MasterCard Worldwide in Purchase, NY.
Modeled after the national business recognition program “Forty Under Forty,” the Business Council has honored the extraordinary accomplishments of Westchester’s most accomplished business leaders under the age of 40 each year since 2004.
The Rising Stars, ranging in age from 24 to 39, represent the wide range of industries that make up the Business Council’s membership and Westchester County’s business community as a whole. Among them: engineering, communications, real estate, law, not-for-profit, energy, education, health care, and financial services. Many of this year’s winners are entrepreneurs: owners of conference centers, mobile dental offices, audio/visual and technology companies, restaurants and more.
“The contributions of these Rising Stars – their professional accomplishments, leadership qualities and volunteer work – are essential to the vitality of the Westchester business community, “ said Dr. Marsha Gordon, President and CEO of The Business Council of Westchester. “The Business Council is committed to presenting Westchester’s young professionals with the opportunities they need to work, succeed and prosper in this county, and we look forward formally recognizing their success on June 19th.”
Business Council Board member Jim Giangrande (class of ‘05) – chair of the Rising Stars steering committee and senior vice president of Opus Advisory Group – added: “Participating as a Rising Stars alumnus has opened many doors for me in my professional and personal life, and I look forward to sharing those opportunities with the new class of award winners.”
Anyone between the ages of 21 and 40 who works in Westchester was eligible for consideration as a Rising Star. The two-part nomination process asked the nominator to describe the nominees’ professional/ entrepreneurial and/or personal accomplishments and leadership qualities, while nominees were asked about lessons learned, strengths, and long term goals.
“Rising Stars” is sponsored by MasterCard Worldwide and The Westchester County Business Journal. Supporters include Berkeley College, Entergy, EZKR Accounting and Consulting LLP, Heineken USA and WCBS Newsradio 880.
The “Rising Stars” awards ceremony on June 19, 2008, 6:00-8:00 p.m. will take place in the lobby of MasterCard Worldwide, 2000 Purchase Street, Purchase, New York. Tickets are $40 per person.
