Pelham NY – On Saturday, May 5, A.G. Williams Painting Company, a century-old, family owned residential and commercial painting firm, joined volunteers from the Parish of Christ the Redeemer in Pelham to help repaint the gym and other interior areas of the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle.
The effort was part of the 20th Annual AmeriCares HomeFront Day, a day to provide senior citizens, single parents, people with disabilities, and qualified low-income homeowners with free home repairs, and to repair local community centers that service those populations.
Six A.G. Williams employees helped paint the 4,500 square foot gym, which due to its 30-foot walls, required the assembly of scaffolding. A.G. Williams’ senior foreman, Ramon Bruzon, coordinated the painting of the gym, including staircase rails. Bruzon trained volunteers on the most efficient painting techniques, from how to use a roller, to washing their hands.
A.G. Williams also arranged for the donation from Benjamin Moore of special interior paint that would adhere well to existing surfaces. “Because the project had to be completed in just one day, it required paint that could be applied without prep work ahead of time and that would stick to the existing paint without peeling,” explain George and Artie Williams, co-owners of A.G. Williams. “We enjoy a close relationship with Benjamin Moore Paints and knew that they would jump on the opportunity to participate in this worthy effort.
”Throughout the county, nine volunteer groups took part in AmeriCares HomeFront Day to revitalize five homes and three community centers in Cortlandt Manor, New Rochelle, North Salem, Peekskill, Port Chester & Scarsdale. In addition to Parish of Christ the Redeemer, volunteer groups included Yorktown Lions & Leos; Human Development Services of Westchester – NPC, Port Chester; Holy Name of Jesus Church, Valhalla; Avon Products, Rye; Fourth Unitarian Society, Mohegan Lake; Order of the Arrow, Westchester County; Sharpened Saws Team, Yonkers; and Team Nick Demeo, New Rochelle.
