The domain "Westchester.com" was registered in 1994 by a very smart and forward-looking fellow. This gentleman just knew it was a smart thing to do. In the years that followed, he crafted Westchester.com into a search engine for Westchester residents.
In 1998, another fellow began building a community news web site for Scarsdale, reporting on local events and getting press releases from local organizations. Soon press releases from Westchester County government offices and county non-profit organizations were clogging up his Scarsdale website and he had to open a second web site just for county news to find a place to put them all.
Somewhere along the way the two gentlemen became well-acqainted with each other and decided to join forces.
In May 2004, Westchester.com was re-issued as a full news and information website covering Westchester County, New York. The websites of the two gentlemen were combined into one - news from a wide variety of county sources along with a powerful directory of local businesses and organizations, submitted by readers or hand-picked by Westchester.com staff.
In May 2007, a new site design was made public and new functionality added - free web blogs for readers, private messaging between users, an online forum for discussions, and much more.
Today Westchester.com stands as one of the most popular online destinations for Westchester residents, second only to The Journal News and News12 as an online news and information resource covering Westchester County.
Westchester.com remains privately-owned by the Publisher, the same forward-looking fellow who registered the domain in 1994. The site is produced and managed by Scarsdale Technologies, Inc., with assistance from Loyal Communications, and hosted at Scarsdale Technologies' web hosting subsidiary, WestchesterInternet.com.
